Punta Arenas to Torres del Paine

Wicked Campervan Trip Options: Pickup & Dropoff in Punta Arenas only

Being in the end of the world is just not enough for you right? Well, that’s what we call a Wicked spirit!! You have chosen to drive along one of the southernmost roads in the world, where loneliness is a partner of your trip, and where you will be really living a unique experience! Watch thousands of Penguins, visit the Lighthouses of the End of the World, fly over the Strait of Magellan, and be amazed by the majestic and imposing Torres del Paine.

Your trip begins at one of the southernmost cities of the world, Punta Arenas. The last “big” city in southern Chile, where you will pick up your Wicked campervan to start driving in direction to Argentina. But before leaving Chile, you can visit the Pali Aike National Park, where you can go to the Pali Aike Cave (considered as one of the oldest evidence of human settlements in the south of the continent), the “Morada del Diablo” crater (Devil’s dwelling) or the Ana lagoon, where most of the local fauna lives. To go to the Park you need to take a detour from Route 255 to Y-405 road that will lead you to the park. We recommend you to make the same trail to go back to the main route and keep driving to Argentina.

Once you have gone through Integración Asutral border crossing, you need to keep driving northeast through National Route 3 (Argentinian continuation of route 255) until you arrive to Río Gallegos town.

Once in Río Gallegos, you have plenty of choices to have a great time. You can start by visiting the Cabo Vírgenes Lighthouse, located 133 km at the south of Río Gallegos; the Cabo Vírgenes Natural Reserve, located near the lighthouse and where you can watch near 90 thousand couples of penguins that have chosen this place to incubate their eggs; or go to the Blue Lagoon Natural Reserve, located 62 Km south of Río Gallegos and famous because of the deep blue color of the lagoon that is actually at the top of a volcano.

Once you arrive to Río Gallegos, One of the greatest experiences you can live there is to fly over the area in a Cessna plane. You will fly over the town, as well as over the blue lagoon, the lighthouse and the Strait of Magellan.

When you’ve enjoyed everything Río Gallegos has to offer, you can start your return way to Chile. In order to go faster to Torres del Paine (to enjoy its magic landscapes), drive west through route 40 until you get to Río Don Guillermo border crossing, from which you got to drive north through route 9 that leads to Torres del Paine National Park.

There’s another option. Before going to Torres del Paine, you can take a ride to El Calafate, an Argentinian city well known by tourists mostly because of its glaciers (the town is located near Los Glaciares National Park, which you can also visit) and attractions like the “Glacio Bar”, the only one bar worldwide where everything is made of ice. From chairs to glasses, everything is made of glacier’s ice.

Anyway, if you decided to go or not to El Calafate, your next stop is Torres del Paine.

Torres del Paine National Park is the home of the famous towers of rock and ice that have the same name, but it is also a place where to do lots of cool activities!

There you can feel the vertigo of climbing to the eternal snowed summits, relax doing fly fishing, take a tour through the mountains on a horse, or practice some sports like kayaking, trekking, mountaineering and even hiking in the ice!

The park is known all around the world and there are reasons for it. Besides having one of the most colossal monuments on the planet, it offers the chance for you to be in contact with real nature and have unique moments either alone or with company. There you can even sleep on your Wicked campervan, away from the noise and pollution of the big cities and with nature all around. If you’re looking for big challenges, here’s a really big one. Go and try to climb the towers… if you can.

Either you did it or not, you have also seven circuits for excursion, where you’ll have to go through rivers, lagoons and almost eternal dark and grey clouds.

After visiting one of the most precious natural corners in the world, it’s time to drive south, starting the trip back to Punta Arenas. But don’t be sad! There’s still a lot to do before giving back your campervan.

From Torres del Paine, drive to Puerto Natales, a city to chill out for a while, eat delicious food like typical lamb stew, take more amazing photographs, enjoy the bayside and prepare for the road.

On your way to Punta Arenas you can also go to a restaurant where their specialty is the rhubarb juice (that is preferred even more than beer!) and where you can eat octopus pizza or kingcrab pizza.

Once you are back in Punta Arenas, you still have a couple of things you can do: Visit the Fuerte Bulnes (Bulnes Fort) near the Strait of Magellan, sail the Strait and around Cabo de Hornos (Hornos Cape) or visit the Parque Ñandú (Rhea Park) where a couple decided to dedicate their life to the raising of this animal.

And that’s it! You’ve just made a trip along the Patagonia, visiting Chile and Argentina and going through landscapes and places you would never imagine to visit. That’s what we call living the Wicked experience!!
